Second international Symposium on Ethnomusicology in Uganda

Under the Ethnomusicology in Uganda Projects, the Department of Performing Arts in the school of Liberal and Performing Art of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Makerere University and The Grieg Academy of the University of Bergen, Norway, hosted the Second International Ethnomusicology in Uganda from October 20- 22, 2011 at the School of Food Technology, Nutrition and Bio-Engineering.

The symposium featured presenters from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Norway with topics covering themes on music and gender, archiving music, popular music and copyrights, music and religion , local and diasporic identities in music, migration and tourism in music cultural policy and the performing arts, among others.

MAKWMA EXHIBITION, day October 22, 2011

Makerere University Klaus Wachsmann Music Archive (MAKWMA), also had an exhibition showcasing its collections and activities at the new Extension of the Main Library on Saturday October 22, 2011 from 2:00-3:00p.m.

BOOK LAUNCH: “Ethnomusicology in East Africa: Perspectives from Uganda and Beyond, 2012.”

Under the Ethnomusicology in Uganda Projects, the Department of Performing Arts in the School of Liberal and Performing Art of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Makerere University and The Grieg Academy of the University of Bergen, Norway, launched a book entitled: “Ethnomusicology in East Africa: Perspectives from Uganda and Beyond,” published by Fountain publishers.

This took place at the the Department of Performing Arts and Film (formerly Music, Dance and Drama) ground.
